Head Chair
Yein Oh
Esteemed Directors, Student Officers, Delegates, and Administration Staff, greetings and welcome to UNIS MUN. My name is Yein Oh and I am more than honored to be the head chair of the General Assembly 3. I am a junior at UNIS Hanoi, and this is my third year in UNIS MUN, third time chairing. I am interested in both math & science and philosophy, so I enjoy exploring global issues, especially ethical ones.
Our committee deals with several issues related to human rights and issues related to youth, family, ageing, persons with disabilities, crime prevention, criminal justice, and drug control. With the theme of the conference, “Are we capable of finding sustainable solutions to our current sources of insecurity?”, GA3 addresses the question of Nutrition Security and Transgenic Food, and the question of Vulnerable Populations Resulting from Climate Conditions and Habitat Modification.
As technology improves, transgenic food or Genetically Modified food is being more affordable and familiar to people. The primary purpose of GM food is to increase food quality in nutrition and increase accessibility to food for those who cannot. They are created in order to be a sustainable solution for nutrition security, but there is controversy on whether or not GM food benefits society. Our first topic deals with nutrition security and the economic situation of farmers globally.
Climate change is an ongoing issue globally; it is one of the 17 sustainable development goals. As time passes by, climate change is happening more intensely, resulting in more deaths in both humans and animals. Some populations will bear more burden of the health outcomes as a result of this climate change unfairly. Through this conference, our committee aims to find sustainable solutions.
MUN is an excellent opportunity to increase skills such as speaking and research. If this is your first conference, don’t worry and always keep in mind that you are improving your skills. I am looking forward to seeing you!
Deputy Chair
Prasanna Maharajan
Greetings everyone, my name is Prasanna Maharajan. I will be the deputy chair for the General Assembly 3 Council at the UNISMUN November conference. I am in 12th grade, and currently attending the United Nations International School of Hanoi (UNIS). I joined Model UN to develop my public speaking and negotiation skills further and become acquainted with global issues. I applied for the position of Chair in hopes of enhancing my leadership skills.
General Assembly 3 (GA3) tackles a range of Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural issues. I am more than honored to be representing GA3. In order to sustainably boost agricultural output, enhance the global supply chain, reduce food losses and waste, and guarantee that everyone who is afflicted by hunger and malnutrition has access to nourishing food, GA3 focuses on stepping up efforts and enhancing technologies. In order to end hunger and eradicate the worst forms of malnutrition, the UN Secretary-General issued the Zero Hunger Challenge, calling for governments, civil society, faith-based organizations, the commercial sector, and academic institutes to collaborate.
In my opinion, GA3 is essential to ensure that every human has equitable access to food and nutrition which is required for the health of all humans, especially, for a child's physical and mental development to grow and fully develop. Important issues related to GA3 that I would like the delegates to consider and debate are The Zero Hunger Challenge, Zero loss or waste of food, and sustainable food systems.
The delegates will gain from attending the UNIS MUN November conference in a number of ways, including by developing their public speaking, debate, and teamwork abilities. As the deputy chair, I'll confidently lead the delegates and do everything in my power to make sure the discussion is fair and runs well. I hope that during the November conference, all delegates will speak up with ease and confidence.
Procedural Chair
Hoang Nguyen
Phuc Anh
Esteemed directors, fellow chairs, distinguished delegates, and most honourable guests,
My name is Phuc Anh and I’m a student from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School, and it is my honour to be here in UNIS MUN 2022 as a Chair of General Assembly 3. Returning to UNIS MUN this year in a different role, I really look forward to this new experience and hope for the success of this year’s conference.
In General Assembly 3, you will be tasked with the responsibility of coming up with creative and sustainable solutions to a wide range of Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural issues, addressing the problem of Nutrition Security and Transgenic Food, and of Vulnerable Populations Resulting from Climate Conditions and Habitat Modification. With the theme of this year’s conference being, “Are we capable of finding sustainable solutions to our current sources of insecurity?”, I hope that after the conference ends, the answer from GA3 will be in the affirmative.
Given the urgent situation regarding food security especially in the context of the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia as well as the ongoing challenges relating to agricultural output, as well as the consequences of climate change, it is only fitting that it is the topic chosen to be the focus of this Committee. The ethicality and safety of transgenic or Genetically Modified food is another area of concern that demands sustainable solutions.
The increasingly devastating impact of climate change is also a significant problem that extends across national borders, affecting various different groups of people worldwide. In addition, the impacts are spread unequally, resulting in certain groups of people suffering disproportionate consequences.
The aim of this committee is to find sustainable solutions for these problems collectively, in which process you can learn valuable skills of speaking, researching and leadership. Again, I’m really looking forward to seeing you at the conference!
