About UNISMUN

The United Nations International School Model United Nations (UNIS MUN) was founded to expose, develop & engage our membership in practical "local to global" problem solving in five key "pillars" or areas of interest:

1. Sustainability & Intergenerational Justice;

2. Diversity of Thought & Inclusive Participation;

3. Collaborative & Distributive Leadership;

4. Change, Growth & Development;

5. Quality Participation that is both Intentional & Meaningful.

The specific aim of our MUN conferences is to encourage debate & sharing of views between students from different schools, different ethnicities, different perspectives & different points of view.

The larger aims of UNIS MUN are as follows:

1. To remind participants of the finite, scarce & fragile nature of our planet’s natural & human resources & our interconnectedness of our global community & common humanity;

2. To motivate members towards greater global engagement, international-mindedness & life-long learning;

3. To provide members with opportunities for leadership, collaboration & meaningful participation;

4. To raise the profile of the role of the United Nations & relevant global & regional legal & institutional frameworks;

5. To provide members with an authentic MUN experience towards the development of their leadership, research, investigation, discussion, debate, collaboration, inter-personal & empathy skills;

6. To encourage Members to take appropriate risks within the UNIS MUN framework; to try out new ideas & approaches.

In other words, the ultimate goal of UNIS MUN is to promote awareness of international relations & issues in young people, & to inspire global mindedness & an understanding to the problems of the world & how to combat them, whilst providing an atmosphere where students can progress in their communication skills & open mindedness.

This would, we hope, allows students the necessary insights to further their understanding & learning of politics in global, international, regional, national, local & personal contexts.
